2025 Juneteenth Contestants

Sandra Bradberry

Sandra Bradberry

Sandra Ella Bradberry, and I am a proud first-generation college  student. I am the daughter of Willie Paul Bradberry and Audrey Lynn Daniel, and the  youngest of six children. My siblings—Shaphon Carter, Darvon Carter, Shayla Dix,  Dominique Carter, and Willie Bradberry—have all played a role in shaping who I am  today. I was born on August 26, 2005, in Lewiston, New York, and raised in Niagara  Falls.  During my early teenage years, I began to explore my identity and aspirations. I took  part-time jobs, learned to manage my responsibilities, and worked diligently to  support myself. These experiences taught me the value of hard work,  independence, and resilience.  I graduated with high honors from Cardinal O’Hara High School in the Class of  2023, and I am currently a student at Clark Atlanta University, one of the nation’s  leading Historically Black Colleges and Universities. I am pursuing a Bachelor of  Science degree in Biological Sciences, with a current GPA of 3.48, and I have been  recognized on the Dean’s List. As I transition into my junior year, I remain  committed to academic excellence and personal growth.  Beyond the classroom, I am actively involved in several organizations, including the  Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students (MAPS), the Pre-Dental Student  Society, and Breaking the Cycle Global, Inc. These groups have provided  opportunities for community service, leadership development, and career  exploration. Through these affiliations, I have strengthened my confidence, built  meaningful relationships, and gained experiences that continue to shape my  journey.  As I move into the next phase of my undergraduate education and begin preparing  for my professional career, I am deeply committed to giving back—to both the  community that raised me and the one that is shaping me today. I strive to lead by  example and to inspire younger generations by showing that success is possible  through perseverance, purpose, and positivity.  My ultimate aspiration is to become a dentist and open my own practice—rooted in  Black excellence and located in underserved neighborhoods. I believe dental  hygiene is a crucial component of overall health, yet it is often overlooked due to a  lack of resources and awareness. My passion for healthcare is driven not only by  my ambition but by a desire to address these disparities and make a lasting impact.  Two of my greatest strengths are my determination and my dedication to building a  better life, a better world, and a better future. I truly believe in my potential to  become the best version of myself for myself, my family, and my community. This is  the path I have chosen, and I am walking it with purpose.

TaMya Davis

Sandra Bradberry

TaMya Davis, an aspiring medical professional with a passion for science, community  service, and personal growth. I'm currently a freshman at Morgan State University in Baltimore,  Maryland, pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Pre-Med track, maintaining a  strong GPA of 3.8.  Determined and compassionate, I balance my academic endeavors with a  variety of extracurricular activities, aiming to make an impact both in the medical field and the  community.   Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, I graduated from Sweet Home High School in Amherst,  NY, in 2024. I was both academically and athletically excellent, earning a GPA of 3.7 and being  recognized as Track MVP of my track team twice. Involved in student leadership as part of the  class council . Also commitment to personal and academic growth. As a freshman, I'm already  making strides in the field of biology and pre-med, focusing on subjects like anatomy and  biology. Interest in science and hands-on learning has been evident from an early age, with  experiences like dissecting frogs, cow hearts, and chicken eyes, as well as conducting  experiments in yeast cultures and basic lab work, starting in 8th grade.   In addition to my academic pursuits I've gained practical experience working as a braider at  Only for Divas Salon in Buffalo, New York. This role allowed me to develop strong  communication and customer service skills while also nurturing my passion for braiding. My  commitment to helping others extends beyond her professional experiences. I have served as a  Vacation Bible School Assistant and a children’s Bible study teacher at Word of Life Ministry,  demonstrating leadership and dedication to nurturing young minds. Additionally, I've been a  participant in community service, helping to plant a community garden in Niagara Falls and  volunteering for Angela Alsobrooks’ Democratic campaign.  I want to make a big difference in this world and show others black young girls that they can do  anything they put their minds to. I've been super involved in campus and local organizations. I'm  an active member of the National Society of Black Women in Medicine, My Sister Keepers, and  a praise and worship dancer. also dedicated some hours for Moveable Feast and Thread  community service. I hope I make a positive impact on this world and thank you for the  opportunity for this scholarship to help me continue to do that.

During my time at SBU, I intend to conduct research in physics and math for my senior comprehensive project. Although my specific plans for physics research are yet to be determined, for my math research, I aim to study graph theory. This research will serve as a steppingstone towards my career aspirations of attending graduate school, earning my master's and doctorate degrees, and ultimately becoming a theoretical physicist. We offer a range of programs to support individuals and families in need.
